Rajgarh ( Hindi : राजगढ़ जिला) is a district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh .
The 6153 km² district is 100 km northwest of Bhopal , the capital of Madhya Pradesh. The river Kali Sindh forms the western boundary of the district, during the tributary Newaj flows through the district and passes the district capital Rajgarh .

In the 2011 census, the population was 1,545,814. 10 years earlier it was 1,254,085. The gender ratio is 956 women for 1000 men. The literacy rate is 61.21% (73.02% for men, 48.95% for women). The Hindus form the largest religious group with 92.76%. 6.92% are Muslim .

history
As part of the formation of Madhya Bharat , the Rajgarh District was created in May 1948. Previously, the area of today's district was divided into the princely states of Rajgarh , Narsinghgarh , Khilchipur , Dewas (senior) , Dewas (junior) and Indore .
