Guna is a district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh .

The area is 6390 km². The administrative seat is the city of Guna .

The population was 1,241,519 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 21.32% and was therefore very high. Guna has a gender ratio of 912 women per 1000 men and thus a frequent male surplus for India. The district had a literacy rate of 63.23% in 2011 , an increase of almost 6 percentage points compared to 2001. This means that literacy is well below the national average. Almost 94.4% of the population are Hindus , approx. 4.0% are Muslims , 1.1% are Jainas , 0.3% are Sikhs and 0.1% each were Christians or stated no religion or belonged to other religions . 16.7% of the population are children under 6 years of age.

Almost 25.2% of the population live in cities. The largest city is Guna with 180,935 inhabitants.
