Shivpuri ( Hindi : शिवपुरी जिला) is a district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh .
The 10,066 km² (according to other data 10,277 km²) large district is located in the north of Madhya Pradesh in the Bundelkhand region west of the metropolis of Jhansi . The Sindh flows through the district in a north-northeast direction. The Betwa River forms the southeastern boundary of the district. The capital of the district is the eponymous city of Shivpuri . The Madhav National Park is located in the district.

In the 2011 census, the population was 1,726,050. Ten years earlier it was 1,406,031. The gender ratio is 877 women for every 1,000 men. The literacy rate is 62.55% (74.56% for men, 48.79% for women). The Hindus form the largest religious group with 95.52%. 2.97% are Muslims , 0.71% are followers of Jainism .
