Dindori is a district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh .

The population was 704,524 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 21.32% and was therefore very high. Dindori has a gender ratio of 1002 women per 1000 men and thus a rare excess of women for India. The district had a literacy rate of 63.90% in 2011 , an increase of almost 9 percentage points compared to 2001. This means that literacy is well below the national average. Almost 85.9% of the population are Hindus , approx. 1.0% are Muslims , 0.6% are Christians , 0.1% are Jainas and 12.3% did not indicate any religious affiliation or belonged to other religions. 15.8% of the population are children under 6 years of age.

Only 4.8% of the population live in cities.
