The district of Tikamgarh ( Hindi टीकमगढ़ जिला ) is a district of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh . The administrative and economic center is the city of Tikamgarh, with a population of around 85,000 .

The district of Tikamgarh, which is enclosed on all sides - except to the east - by Uttar Pradesh, is located in the north of the state of Madhya Pradesh on the border with Uttar Pradesh. The Tikamgarh district was formerly part of the Bundelkhand region , which was dominated in the Middle Ages by the Gupta and later by the Pratihara and the Chandella rulers.
