The district of Jhansi ( Hindi : झांसी जिला) is located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .
The district is located on the southern edge of the north Indian plain 200 km northeast of Agra . It extends over an area of 5024 km². The capital is Jhansi .
The population was 1,998,603 in the 2011 census. In 2001 there were 1,744,931. The gender ratio was 890 women for 1000 men. The literacy rate was 75.05% (85.38% among men, 63.49% among women). 91.26% of the population are followers of Hinduism , while 7.40% are Muslims .
