Meerut ( Hindi : मेरठ ज़िला; also Merath ) is a district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .
Meerut is located in the west of Uttar Pradesh in the Meerut division . The district is located 60 km northeast of the federal capital New Delhi . The south-flowing Ganges forms the eastern border of the district. District capital is Meerut . The district covers 2559 km².
