Peder Pederson Aadnes (variants of the family name Aadnäs and Aadnaes ; born August 10, 1739 at Odnes farm in Søndre Land ( Oppland ); † June 20, 1792 ibid) was a Norwegian painter .

Life

Peder Pederson Aadnes, son of a farmer, first trained with the Norwegian painter Eggert Munch in the early 1750s . In January 1770 he came to Christiania (today's Oslo ) and hired himself for three months as an apprentice to the portrait and decoration painter Niels Thaaning of Danish origin . Older art historians had suspected that Aadnes made a trip abroad to Copenhagen , London and Saxony for educational purposes in the years 1770–73 ; But his personal account book, found in 1901 and reaching from 1768–84, shows that such a trip did not take place, the artist stayed in Norway and returned to Odnes in 1770. In 1773 he married Ingeborg Jonsdatter (* around 1753, † 1823), with whom he had five children. In the same year that he celebrated his wedding, he took over his father's farm. As a result, he managed his family estate, but did not neglect the care of his art. He traveled to many farms in Eastern Norway, especially those on the Randsfjord , where he created wall decorations and painted furniture.

Based on the native rose painting, Aadnes was also influenced by Rococo painting, and folk and urban art are combined in his work. He decorated furniture and walls with beautifully colored floral motifs (including roses, tulips) and was thus a pioneer of this ornamentation in Eastern Norway. He also painted walls with figures and landscapes, for example at Thomle farm in 1768–76 (today in the Lands Museum in Nordre Land ), in 1778 at Bjellum farm in Jevnaker (today in Maihaugen in Lillehammer ) and in 1781 in Gladtveds Hotel in Hønefoss (burnt down in 1941 ).

Aadnes also emerged as a portrait painter. As early as 1770 he had drawn the Justizrat Christopher Blix Hammer and the theologian Andreas O. Hammer, of which Jonas Haas created copperplate engravings in Copenhagen the following year . He also painted portraits later, including one of Professor Hans Ström in 1791, which was engraved by SA Seehuusen. He also made altar pieces, such as the crowning of the altarpiece in Lunde Church in Nordre Land in 1772 and the altarpiece in Hov Church in Søndre Land in 1782 .
