Jonas Haas
Jonas Haas (* 1720 in Nuremberg ; † April 10, 1775 in Copenhagen ) was a German engraver.
Life
Haas initially worked as a copper engraver in Hamburg from 1744 to 1753 . He married a daughter of the engraver Christian Fritzsch in Hamburg . Like many of his colleagues working in Hamburg, he was fascinated by the Michel fire in 1751 after a lightning strike in the church tower; he too held on to this event in the lurch. In 1754 he moved to Copenhagen, where the painter and friend of his father-in-law Johann Salomon Wahl played a major role at court as administrator of the royal art chamber. Haas was from January 3, 1755 university engraver at the University of Copenhagen . His sons Meno , Peter and Georg also became famous engravers.
