Otto Andrup

Otto Andrup , full Henrik Otto Ludvig Lauritz Andrup (born October 8, 1883 in Randers ; died August 24, 1953 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish art historian and director of the Danish National History Museum in Frederiksborg Castle .

Andrup was the son of Otto William Andrup (1853-1909) and his wife Frederikke Mariane Louise (nee Levring, 1855-1902). He married on July 5, 1910 in the Copenhagen Castle Church Nina Zelia (born Hindenburg, 1885–1970), who had attended the Conservatory of Music from 1907 to 1909 . The couple had a son Georg O. Andrup.

Andrup attended school in his birthplace and, supported by a Regensen scholarship, studied languages ​​and literary history at the University of Copenhagen from 1905 to 1909 . In addition, he had to earn a living and became private secretary to the Frederiksborg museum inspector Emil Ferdinand Svitzer Lund . He then worked as editor of the magazine of the Regensische Gesellschaft Regensen and published a book on the history of this institution in 1911. From 1910 he worked for the museum at Frederiskborg Castle and in 1913 got a permanent position as deputy manager. In 1916 he was first museum inspector and in 1927 the museum's executive director. Since 1929 he was responsible for the collection in Rosenborg Castle and in 1933 he was officially awarded the title of "Museum Director". Andrup wrote articles for the art magazine Samleren and contributed with articles to the volumes on Danske malede Portrætter and in volumes 13 to 19 of the General Lexicon of Fine Artists from Antiquity to the Present . In 1914, together with Karl Madsen , he published a book about the painting collection of the Counts of Gavnø Castle . From 1933 to 1944 he also worked as a collaborator on the volumes of the new edition of the Dansk biografisk leksikons for biographies on the artistic field. In 1945 he contributed to the history of Denmark in pictures and also helped to compile the work on the Danish kings from Christian I to X.
