UGC 9178 = Arp 45 is an interacting pair of galaxies in the Bear Keeper constellation. It is an estimated 394 million light years away from the Milky Way .

Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class spiral galaxies with a companion of low surface brightness on one arm . One arm of the galaxy ( VV 2a ) leads to the great companion ( VV 2b ), the other to the small companion / spiral arm ( VV 2c ).
