NGC 1347 = Arp 39 is an interacting galaxy pair in the constellation Eridanus, which is approximately 75 million light years from the Milky Way .
Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class spiral galaxies with a companion of low surface brightness on one arm (Arp catalog) . NGC 1347 was discovered by the astronomer Francis Leavenworth in 1886 . The interacting component is the galaxy PGC 816443 .
