NGC 1357 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sab in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 86 million light years from the Milky Way and about 85,000 light years in diameter.

The object was discovered on February 1, 1785 by the German-British astronomer William Herschel .
