NGC 1381 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Fornax in the southern sky . It is an estimated 71 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 55,000 ly. It is listed as a member of the Fornax galaxy cluster under the catalog name FCC 170 . The galaxies NGC 1375 , NGC 1379 , NGC 1382 , NGC 1387 are in the same area of ​​the sky .

The object was discovered by Julius Schmidt on January 19, 1865 .
