The bibliotheca Germany GmbH (formerly Bibliotheca RFID Library Systems GmbH) , headquartered in Reutlingen , shortly bibliotheca called, is an international technology and services company in librarianship . It specializes in the development, installation and support of electromagnetic and RFID solutions for all types of libraries . With sustainable RFID / EM systems, individual open library complete solutions and the integrated cloudLibrary eBook platform, bibliotheca lays the foundation for a future-proof library 4.0 and enables the development of the libraries towards a third place according to the ideas of the sociologist Ray Oldenburg . bibliotheca is a specialist in self- booking, return / sorting and transport systems, open library technology, eBook web applications / apps and media security for theft protection .

history

The German company was founded in 2006 as a branch of the Swiss parent company. In 2002 the brothers Jacques and Marcel Nauer founded the Bibliotheca RFID Library Systems AG (from October 2016 bibliotheca Switzerland AG ) in Switzerland. They can be described as pioneers of the use of RFID in libraries: the conversion from barcodes to RFID was still in its infancy in the library industry.

In the first few years, the Swiss company was awarded the Zug Innovation Prize (2004) and the Swiss Technology Award (2005).

bibliotheca Germany GmbH is part of the bibliotheca group, which was founded in spring 2011 through the merger of three leading companies in the library industry: bibliotheca Switzerland (Switzerland), Intellident (GB) and the Integrated Technology Group ITG (North America). Trion (Switzerland), a specialist in media return and sorting systems, has also been part of the group since January 2012. In October 2015, the group grew again when bibliotheca's shareholder ( One Equity Partners ) acquired the entire library division of 3M .

The group maintains its own branches on all major continents. It cooperates with selected sales partners in 70 other countries. To date there have been over 30,000 customer-specific installations in libraries of various types. More than 10,000 self-check terminals, over 650 return and sorting systems and 6,000 security systems are in use worldwide. Content from more than 1,000 publishers can be accessed via a digital platform, which is available in almost 3,000 libraries.
