NGC 1366 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Chemical Furnace in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 50 million light years from the Milky Way .

The object was discovered on October 9, 1790 by the astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
