NGC 1382 = 1380B is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E / SB0 in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 72 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 35,000 ly. It is listed as a member of the Fornax galaxy cluster under the catalog name FCC 190 .
The galaxies NGC 1380 , NGC 1381 , NGC 1387 , NGC 1396 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on January 19, 1865 by the astronomer Julius Schmidt with the help of a 16 cm telescope and was later listed by Johann Dreyer in the New General Catalog .
