NGC 1359 is a merging bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 84 million light years from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy is considered a member of the Eridanus Galaxy Cluster and the NGC 1407 group .
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1352 , NGC 1362 , NGC 1370 .

The object was discovered by John Herschel on October 12, 1836 .
