NGC 1400 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type E / S0 in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 21 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 15,000 light-years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1393 , NGC 1402 , NGC 1407 , IC 343 .
The object was on 20 September 1786 by William Herschel using a 18.7-inch - telescope discovered.
