NGC 1424 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 250 million light years from the Milky Way and about 120,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 1417 , NGC 1418 , IC 344 , IC 347 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Bindon Blood Stoney on December 8, 1850 .
