NGC 1428 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy of the Hubble type E / SB0 in the constellation Fornax in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 68 million light years from the Milky Way and about 20,000 light years across . The galaxy is listed as a member of the Fornax galaxy cluster under catalog number FCC 277 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 1404 , NGC 1427 , NGC 1436 .
The object was discovered by Julius Schmidt on January 19, 1865 .
