Cornelia Renz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cornelia Renz (* 1966 in Kaufbeuren ) is a German artist who lives and works in Berlin and Jerusalem .

Life

After completing her studies in art education , art history and psychology in Augsburg , Cornelia Renz studied painting and graphics from 1993 to 1998 with Sighard Gille and Neo Rauch at the University of Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig . She then completed her master's degree in 2001, also with Sighard Gille at the same university.

art

To create her collage-like works, Cornelia Renz works with large-format acrylic glass panes stacked on top of one another , on which she paints, paints and draws with pigment pens. By stacking the layers on top of one another, the individual elements come together to form a work of art. Motifs are often text fragments and found images from art and media history , comics , porn and the like. Cornelia Renz fluidly combines contrasting motifs such as nudes with flower patterns, animals, childish motifs, but also skeletons or weapons. Since they represent a strong contrast between the everyday and the unexpected, the sensible and the absurd, their works often create discomfort in the viewer, but also stimulate thought about the everyday media world by which we are influenced.

In addition to painting behind the glass on acrylic glass , the artist also produces small-format print graphics with linocuts and drawings that show similar compositions. Solo and group exhibitions by the artists can be seen nationally, but also internationally.
