NGC 1409 is the name of a spiral galaxy in the constellation Taurus that is 345 million light years away from the Milky Way . It interacts with the galaxy NGC 1410 , from which it is around 23,000 light years away. It is believed that the two galaxies collided about 100 million years ago and that they will merge in about 200 million years.

The galaxy was discovered on January 6, 1785 by the German-British astronomer Wilhelm Herschel .
