NGC 1422 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 69 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter .
The galaxies NGC 1414 , NGC 1415 , NGC 1426 , NGC 1439 are located in the same area of the sky .
The property was discovered by Francis Preserved Leavenworth on November 19, 1886 .
