NGC 1388 is an elliptical galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type E0 in the constellation Eridanus south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 191 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 40,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 1372 , NGC 1405 , NGC 1413 , IC 1975 , among others .
The object was discovered by Francis Leavenworth on November 12, 1885 .
