NGC 1386 is a lenticular galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Eridanus . It is an estimated 33 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 35,000 ly. It is listed as a member of the Fornax galaxy cluster under catalog number FCC 179 .
The galaxies NGC 1369 , NGC 1379 , NGC 1387 , NGC 1389 are in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by the German astronomer Julius Schmidt in 1865 with a 15.75 cm telescope.
