NGC 1389 is an elliptical dwarf galaxy from the Hubble type I / SB0 in the constellation Eridanus south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 36 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 25,000 ly. The galaxy is listed under catalog number FCC 193 as a member of the Fornax galaxy cluster .
The galaxies NGC 1379 , NGC 1386 , NGC 1387 , NGC 1396 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Julius Schmidt on January 19, 1865 .
