NGC 341 is a barred spiral galaxy with a high rate of star formation of the Hubble type in the constellation Whale south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 205 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter. Together with the irregular companion PGC 3627 ( NGC 341B ) at the end of its eastern spiral arm, it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Arp 59 .
The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on October 21, 1881 .
