UGC 4457 = Arp 58 is a bar-spiral galaxy in the constellation Cancer , which is about 494 million light years from the Milky Way. At the end of its spiral arm, the galaxy has a smaller compact, elliptical companion galaxy ( PGC 23937 , cE0 pec?) Of high surface brightness ( Arp 58 ).
Halton Arp organized his catalog of unusual galaxies into groups according to purely morphological criteria. This galaxy belongs to the class spiral galaxies with a small companion of high surface brightness on one arm (Arp catalog) .
