Meno Haas

Meno Haas (born May 30, 1752 in Hamburg , † October 16, 1833 in Berlin ) was a German engraver .

Haas was the son of the engraver Jonas Haas . He learned the trade from his father and from Johann Martin Preissler in Copenhagen . As a student at the Royal Danish Academy of Art , he received the silver medal from the academy in 1772 and 1774. He went to Paris and in 1782 became a student of Nicolas de Launay . In 1786 he received a call to Berlin to engrave the paintings in the royal gallery. Since 1787 he exhibited at the exhibitions of the Prussian Academy of the Arts and was accepted into the academy as a member in 1793 in recognition of his engraving Der deutsche Fürstenbund based on the painting by Bernhard Rode . His brothers Peter and Georg Haas also became famous engravers.
