Johann Salomon Wahl (* 1689 in Chemnitz , † 1765 in Copenhagen ) was Christian VI's court painter . from Denmark. He portrayed the royal family in hundreds of pictures.

Live and act

Wahl received his training as a painter from 1705 to 1711 with David Hoyer in Leipzig . Around 1719 he settled in Hamburg , where he counted the Holstein and Danish nobility among his customers as a portrait painter. From 1722 he also worked from Hamburg for the Danish royal family. In 1727 Wahl was appointed court portrait painter.

As Christian VI. When he became king in 1730, Wahl settled in Copenhagen. In 1737 he took over the administration of the royal art chamber . He had a large workshop in Copenhagen for his extensive portrait production.

Nicolaus Georg Geve was a student .
