Saharanpur is a district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

The area is 3,689 km². The administrative seat is the city of Saharanpur . The district belongs to the wider metropolitan area of Delhi ( National Capital Region ).

The population is 3,466,382 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 19.66%. Saharanpur has a gender ratio of 890 women per 1000 men. It had a literacy rate of 70.49% in 2011, an increase of almost nine percentage points compared to 2001. Just under 57% of the population are Hindus and around 42% are Muslims .

The urbanization rate of the district is approximately 30.8%. The largest city was Saharanpur with 705,478 inhabitants.
