Sant Kabir Nagar ( Hindi : संत कबीर नगर ) is a district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh . The administrative seat is the city of Khalilabad . The district is named after the poet saint Kabir (1440-1518), who is buried in the city of Maghar in the district of Sant Kabir Nagar.

The district of Sant Kabir Nagar is located in the northeast of Uttar Pradesh and belongs to the Basti division . Neighboring districts are Basti in the west, Siddharthnagar in the north, Gorakhpur in the east and Ambedkar Nagar in the south.
With an area of 1646 km² Sant Kabir Nagar is one of the smaller districts of Uttar Pradesh. The district area belongs to the Ganges plain and is completely flat. In the south, the Ghaghara , a large tributary of the Ganges , forms the border of the Sant Kabir Nagar district. The Rapti River also flows through the district.
The district of Sant Kabir Nagar is divided into the three Tehsils Mehdawal, Khalilabad and Dhanghata.

Sant Kabir Nagar has existed as an independent district since 1997. The district was formed into parts of the Basti and Siddharthnagar districts.

According to the 2011 census, the Sant Kabir Nagar district has 1,715,183 inhabitants. Between 2001 and 2011 the population grew by 21 percent. The population density of 1042 inhabitants per km² is above the already high average of Uttar Pradesh (829 inhabitants per km²). The district is very rural: only a little over seven percent of the residents of Sant Kabir Nagar live in cities. The literacy rate is 67 percent, close to the state average (68 percent).
According to the 2001 census , Hindus make up the majority of the residents of the Sant Kabir Nagar district with 76 percent. There is also a larger Muslim minority of 24 percent.
