The district of Bijnor ( Hindi : बिजनौर ज़िला; Urdu : بجنور ضلع) is located in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

The district is located in the North Indian Plain 140 km northeast of the federal capital New Delhi . The Siwaliks rise north of the district . The Ganges forms the western border of the district. The Ramganga and its tributary Khoh flows through the eastern part of the district . The district extends over an area of ​​4561 km² (according to other information 4645 km²). The capital is Bijnor .

The population was 3,682,713 in the 2011 census. In 2001 there were 3,131,619. The gender ratio was 917 women for 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 68.48% (76.56% among men, 59.72% among women). 55.18% of the population are followers of Hinduism , while 43.04% are Muslims and 1.37% are Sikhs .
