Sherkot ( Hindi शेरकोट ) is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

The city is part of the Bijnor district . Sherkot is about 422 km northwest of Lucknow and near the border with Uttarakhand . Sherkot has the status of a Nagar Palika Parishad . The city is divided into 25 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census, it had 62,226 inhabitants, of whom 32,369 were men and 29,857 women.

Sherkot was founded by Emperor Sher Shah Suri , an Afghan ruler of the Sur Dynasty , who ruled northern India from 1540 to 1545 after defeating Humayun , a Mughal emperor.
