Gautam Buddha Nagar ( Hindi गौतम बुद्ध नगर जिला ) is a district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh in the Meerut division .
Gautam Buddha Nagar is located in the far west of Uttar Pradesh in the urban agglomeration of Delhi , which borders the district to the west. The district extends on the east bank of the Yamuna over an area of 1442 km². Greater Noida is the administrative seat of the district. The district is divided into three tehsils : Dadri , Jewar and Noida .
The district was named after Gautama Buddha , the historical founder of Buddhism . It was founded on September 6, 1997. It was formed from parts of the Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr districts. The Dadri and Bisrakh blocks came from Ghaziabad, while the Dankaur and Jewar blocks came from Bulandshahr. In addition, 18 other villages came from Bulandshahr to the newly founded district and were incorporated into Dankaur and Jewar.
In the 2011 census, the population in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district was 1,648,115. In the 2001 census, the population was 1,202,030.
