Shahjahanpur is a district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .
The area is 4388 km². The administrative seat is the city of Shahjahanpur .
history
Shahjahanpur was founded by Diler Khan and Bahadur Khan , sons of Dariya Khan , a soldier in the army of Grand Mughal Jahangir . Both Diler Khan and Bahadur Khan were dignitaries in Shah Jahan's regime . Delighted with the services of Diler Khan, Shah Jahan gave him 14 villages with permission to build a fortress.

The population is 3,006,538 (2011). The population growth rate from 2001 to 2011 was 18.0%. Shahjahanpur has a gender ratio of 889 women per 1000 men. The district has a literacy rate of 59.54% in 2011, an increase of almost ten percentage points compared to 2001. Almost 80% of the population are Hindus , around 18% are Muslims and around 2% are Sikhs .
The urbanization rate of the district is approximately 19.8%. The largest city was Shahjahanpur with 329,736 inhabitants.
