Banda ( Hindi : बांदा जिला) is a district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

Banda is located in the south of Uttar Pradesh in the Chitrakoot division . Banda is the easternmost district in Bundelkhand . The capital is Banda . The district covers 4408 km².

population

The population of Banda was 1,799,410 in the 2011 census. Ten years earlier it was 1,537,334. The gender ratio was 863 women per 1,000 men. The literacy rate was 66.67% (77.78% for men, 53.67% for women). 91% of the population were Hindu , 8.76% Muslim .

history

On September 4, 1998, the Tehsils Karwi and Mau were separated from the Banda district and have since formed the newly founded Chitrakoot district .
