Rampur ( Hindi रामपुर ज़िला Rāmapur zilāUrdu : رام پور ضلع) is a district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh . The city of Rampur is the district capital. The district is part of the Moradabad Division . The district covers an area of ​​2,367 km² and has 2,335,398 inhabitants (2011 census). In India this district is known for its Rampuri Knives (English for Rampuri knives ).

The district includes five tehsils : Rampur, Bilaspur, Milak, Shahabad, Suar, and Tanda.

There are five constituencies for the Uttar Pradesh regional parliament in the district: Swar, Chamraua, Bilaspur, Rampur and Milak.

Demographic data

According to the 2011 census, the Rampur district has a population of 2,335,398 people, roughly the same as the population of the US state of New Mexico . With 987 inhabitants per square kilometer, this district is in 194th place (out of 640 ). The population growth rate over the decade 2001–2011 was 21.4%. The gender ratio is 905 women per 1000 men. and the literacy rate is 55.08%. 51% of the population of Rampur are Muslim.
