Rampur ( Hindi : रामपुर; Urdu : رام پور) is a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh . The city is known for its historical and cultural library, Raza Library . The city is the administrative seat of the district of the same name .
Rampur was the capital of the former princely state of the same name . As a city, Rampur has the status of Nagar Palika Parishad today . The city is divided into 43 wards .

Rampur is located in the north Indian plain 25 km east of Moradabad . The city is located 50 km west of Moradabad and 120 km east of the federal capital New Delhi . The Kosi River , a left tributary of the Ramganga , flows west of the city in a southerly direction.

The national highway NH 24 connects Rampur with Moradabad and Bareilly . The NH 87 runs from Rampur to Rudrapur . Rampur is also connected to the three cities by train.

At the 2011 census, Rampur had 325,313 inhabitants, of whom 169,681 are male and 155,632 are female. 62.25% of men and 56.45% of women can read and write. For every 1000 men there are 917 women, among the 0–6 year olds the figure is 926 girls per 1000 boys. A total of 12.15% of Rampur are children under 7 years of age. 6.56% of the total population live in one of Rampur's 3,572 slums . 70.02% of the population are Muslim , 28.46% are Hindus , 1.00% are Sikhs and the rest are Christians , Jains and Buddhists .
