Moradabad ( Hindi : मुरादाबाद , Urdu : مراداباد; Murādābād [ mʊrɑːdɑːbɑːd ]) is a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and the administrative seat of the district of the same name .

history
Moradabad was founded in 1625 by Rustam Khan, the governor of Katehr. Murad Bakhsh, a prince of the Mughal Empire, gave the city its name. The city was under the rule of the Rohillas , a Pashtun people , from 1740 to 1773 . Between 1801 and India's independence in 1947, the city was part of the British Empire .
