The Kosi is an approximately 230 km long left tributary of the Ramganga in India .

Its headwaters are in the Someshwar chain in the Front Himalayas in the north of the Almora district in Uttarakhand . The Kosi initially flows mainly in a southerly direction through the mountains. Near Almora , the Kosi turns west and then flows through the north of the Nainital district . Finally, the river breaks through the Siwalikketten and reached at Ramnagar , the Gangetic Plain . The Kosi now flows south through the state of Uttar Pradesh . It flows west past the city of Ramnagar . Finally the Kosi flows into the Ramganga , a left tributary of the Ganges .
