Banda ( Hindi बांदा Bāndā ; Urdu : باندہ) is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh .

Banda is located in the south of the North Indian Plain, 110 km south of Kanpur . The Ken , a right tributary of the Yamuna , flows through the city. The city is the administrative seat of the district of the same name . Banda is on the national highway NH 76 ( Jhansi - Prayagraj ). The NH 232 runs from Banda to Fatehpur .

As a city, Banda has the status of Nagar Palika Parishad . The city is divided into 29 wards . At the 2011 census, Banda had 160,473 inhabitants. 77.73% of the population are followers of Hinduism , while 21.26% are Muslim .
