The Newaj is the left headwaters and main headwaters of the Parwan in the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan .
The Newaj rises at an altitude of 634 m in Tehsil Astha in the Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh. Its headwaters are on the northern slopes of the Vindhya Mountains . The river flows mainly in a northerly direction. The small town of Jawar is located on the upper reaches . Its most important tributary, the Dudhi , flows into the river on the right. The Newaj later flows west past the city of Shujalpur and the small town of Talen . It passes the cities of Pachore and Rajgarh . After 205 km the river reaches Rajasthan and 15 km later joins the Ghorapachhar, which flows in from the east, to form Parwan.
The Newaj has a length of 220 km. It drains an area of 4372 km².
