The Ruefa Reisen GmbH is a subsidiary of the Austrian Development Agency . The company runs over 100 travel agencies across Austria under the Ruefa brand . The company is located in the 2nd district of Vienna . The name Ruefa originated in 1951 and is an acronym for " R else U rlaub E rholung f ÜR a lle".

history

After the end of the Second World War, following an initiative by the trade unions, the Workers' Leave Act stipulated that “work necessitates an annual refreshment of the workforce through a longer uninterrupted break”.

First trips to Sweden were organized in order to allow as many workers as possible to go on vacation. The so-called “country residency campaign for workers and employees” was soon expanded to include trips to Istria and Italy.

In 1976, BAWAG Bank for Labor and Economics acquired the travel company Ruefa and consolidated the company. At the same time, the travel agency branch network was expanded and the tour operator's productions were concentrated. In 2000 the Bayerische Landesbank took over 100% of the shares in Ruefa. At the same time, the limited liability company was renamed a stock corporation. Since November 1, 2004, Ruefa has been wholly owned by Österreichisches Verkehrsbüro AG and is incorporated into the group as Verkehrsbüro-Ruefa Reisen GmbH.

Single brand strategy

In 2008, the company made the decision to operate as a travel agency and tour operator under the uniform brand Ruefa (previously: Verkehrsbüro Reisen and Ruefa). From 2009 the gradual conversion of all travel agencies in Austria began, which culminated in an Austria-wide redesign of the travel agencies and a certification of the travel consultants. The new Ruefa logo designed in the process represents a wave in white against a red background and is intended to symbolize vacation and travel.
