Samuel Schmid (born August 26, 1972 ) is a Swiss politician ( SLB ).

Professional career

Samuel Schmid is an ordained pastor of the Reformed Church in Aargau and a licensed theologian . After studying in Zurich , Basel and Bern and serving as a parish priest in Hunzenschwil , he took over the management of an international aid organization . Today he is President and Managing Director of the Freundes-Dienst Foundation and the Elim Foundation in Biberstein, which also includes a seminar and guest house, and President of the Association of Missionswerk Freundes-Dienst Schweiz in Bern. He is non-denominational.

In addition to his theological activities, Schmid is a dipl. NPO manager VMI and sits on the board of directors and in the management of Logo Media AG and Smico AG.

Political career

EPP

In 1999 Schmid took part in the National Council elections in Canton Aargau for the first time . At that time still on the EPP's young list . Between 2000 and 2003 Schmid was a member of the board of the EVP Aarau district and, as a co-founder, was the first president of the regional EVP Kirchberg party. In the 2001 Grand Council elections, Schmid achieved the second-best result on the EPP list. From 2001 to 2003 he worked as an editor for the cantonal EPP party newspaper "EPP info". According to the magazine "Idea Spektrum", the EPP suggested that Schmid resign from the party in 2003 after Schmid's father was sentenced to one year in prison for sexual acts with women. The co-defendant Schmid was acquitted, but he did not distance himself from his father or his aid organization "Freundes-Dienst".

EDU

In 2003 Schmid moved from the Evangelical People's Party to the Federal Democratic Union , where he was a member of the Aargau Cantonal Board and a member of the Aarau District Board from 2004. Schmid also took over the post of editor-in-chief of the cantonal EDU party newspaper "EDU Aktuell", from which he resigned in 2007. In the same year Schmid ran for the first time as a candidate for the EDU district of Aarau as a judge of the peace in the constituency of Kirchberg and narrowly missed the absolute majority. In 2005 he ran as an EDU candidate for the Aargau grand council elections and achieved the best result on the list. In the same year he became president of the EDU Aarau district and a year later a delegate of the EDU Aargau. In 2007 he ran for the National Council elections in the canton of Aargau and achieved the best list result for the EDU Aargau. In 2009 Schmid finally made the breakthrough and was elected to the Grand Council for the EDU together with Martin Lerch , where he joined the SVP parliamentary group and became a member of the "Health and Social Affairs" commission. On June 30, 2010, Samuel Schmid informed that he was leaving the EDU due to differences of opinion with the party leadership. According to various media reports, the party learned of the exit from the media.

SLB

On April 23, 2011, he founded the Social-Liberal Movement , which he currently presides over. He ran for his party in the Grand Council elections on October 21, 2012, but had to leave the Grand Council at the end of the legislative period, as the SLB was unable to reach the canton-wide hurdle of 3% votes, nor that of 5% in one of the districts . In the Grand Council elections on October 23, 2016, the party lost 0.32% of the vote and, with 0.17%, had no chance of a seat.

Private

Samuel Schmid lives in Biberstein in the canton of Aargau . He is married and has five daughters.
