The Ruethenfest is one of the largest children's festivals in Bavaria in Landsberg am Lech .

The festival takes place every four years and lasts for nine days. At the Ruethenfest, children present the history of the Upper Bavarian city. It consists of dances, parades and happy camp life is shown. The focus of the Ruethenfest is a splendid parade with horse-drawn carts and decorated carriages.

origin

The festival supposedly originated from a custom that took place annually in May. On a fine day, teachers and students moved into a nearby forest and cut willows and hazelnut rods, which they brought into town with singing in the evening. The rods were used to chastise students and were used as the teacher's official sign. The Ravensburg Rod Festival seems to have its origins in a similar ritual. Sources say that this custom existed in other cities as well. This custom can be traced for the first time in Landsberg in 1751 .
