from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rufus George Bousquet is a politician from Saint Lucia .

biography

Bousquet is a member of the United Workers Party (UWP) founded by John Compton in 1964 . In 1995 he served as Minister of State with responsibility for financial investments and the National Development Corporation (NDC) in the government of Prime Minister Compton, but was dismissed in May 1995 on allegations of theft and enrichment.

He later resumed his political activities and ran for leading positions within the party at the UWP party congress in September 2000.

As a candidate for the UWP, he was elected Member of Parliament in the elections on December 11, 2006, where he represents the Choiseul / Saltibus constituency .

After the victory of the UWP in the parliamentary elections on December 11, 2006, Prime Minister Compton made him Foreign Minister and Minister for International Investment, Information and Broadcasting on December 19, 2006. After Compton fell ill, Acting Prime Minister Stephenson King took over the post of Foreign Minister himself on June 6, 2007. The reason for the release was the controversial establishment of diplomatic relations with Taiwan .

As part of a cabinet reshuffle, Prime Minister King brought him back to the Cabinet on June 6, 2008 as Minister for Industry, Trade, Investment and Consumer Affairs. The opposition Saint Lucia Labor Party (SLP) under Kenneth Anthony was irritated by the reappointment and also referred to the theft and enrichment allegations at the beginning of the 1990s in a press release.

As part of a renewed government reshuffle, Prime Minister King handed the office of Minister for Foreign Affairs back to Bousquet on January 30, 2009. He is also Minister for Foreign Trade and Investment.
