Ruhla clock museum
The Ruhla Clock Museum was founded in 2002 as a company and technology museum and reopened in October 2006 after a significant expansion of the exhibition rooms. The owner and operator is the company Gardé Uhren und Feinmechanik Ruhla GmbH, which emerged from the Ruhlaer watch factory .
location
The clock museum is located in the northern part of Ruhla, Bahnhofstraße 27, on the bottom floor of the former factory building, House 1 , a striking, six-story brick building from 1932.
Collection focus
With its exhibits, the museum offers an overview of the almost 150-year history of watchmaking in Ruhla , which also represents an important part of the city's economic history.
All exhibited items were developed and produced in-house in Ruhla. The exhibition of the clock museum includes more than 1,300 clocks and 35 automats , which are exhibited on an area of 200 m². Technical details of the (mechanical) clocks and the history of clock production in Ruhla are given to the visitor on numerous boards.
In addition to current radio-controlled clocks from the Gardé production program , visitors will find “classic” wristwatches and alarm clocks , but also special forms such as chess clocks , chronometers , hunting bait clocks and toy clocks. A factory outlet is also attached to the museum.
