Ruin Heidenmauer

The Heidenmauer ruin , also known as Rosenstein , is an abandoned medieval hilltop castle in the municipality of Oberwil in the canton of Bern .

Location and description

The castle stood at 847.9  m above sea level. M. on a small hill. Towards the south it drops steeply to the Simme . On the west side there are two more hills in front of which the castle was probably accessed. It can be assumed that farm buildings used to stand on them. The castle consisted of a massive keep and an attached kennel and was quite small. Bering and two remains of the neck ditch are still visible.

history

Not much is known about the history of the castle. It is believed that it was founded by followers of the Counts of Kyburg in the 13th century. The castle is documented but not tangible.

In the saga of the Rosenstein a knight Hugo von Rosenstein is mentioned, for whom his avarice became his undoing. The robbers of Gaffer Tschingen killed him and razed his castle to the ground. His treasure, which is guarded by the devil himself, is said to still lie in the forest today . It is unclear when this should have happened.
